Thorns of Life-time

The first time I heard Jets to Brazil was in Little D’s car driving home from a Buckshot show circa ‘98. That was 10 years ago… Geeez.

Blake Schwarzenbach has a new band, here’s videos of them playing at that punk house in Crown Heights called The Fort. Sounds good, poppy like Jawbreaker.

It reminds me of when I lived at the punk house in Santa Cruz and after the Jets to Brazil show my roommate Chas’ friend though it would be funny to start a rumor that Blake was coming to the punk house after the show. There were people hanging at our house but not Blake, and of course groups of young emo kids were outside lurking and trying to play it cool. Chas had to burst their bubble by telling them “Do you guys think Blake Schwarzenbach is coming here, because he’s not” which of course they thought was a trick. But when people left and we went bed the kids outside finally gave up. That dude’s got some diehard fans.

New Judgement Day shirts.
Why so serious?

I designed these shirts this summer when they were on tour with Mates of State, and they finally got printed in time for their current tour. First leg was with Margo and the nuclear so and sos, and now they’re finishing up the tour with the bay area band Dredge. Their show at the highline ballroom here in NY was pretty good, plus I got to cypher a few plates full of chicken caesar salad backstage. I don’t eat enough veggies these days ’cause shit’s expensive here. Salad days.

Get ready to up the street wear around here! The shirts I designed for kidrobot last year are finally out and available on their web store.

Yes this is shameless self promotion, but I benefit in no way from you buying them. I get no royalties or anything, but I’m just stoked to see them finally come out. Look out Hypebeast, prepare yourself for the mind explosion!

Holly Johan!

New York Mets have won the Johan Santana sweepstakes! This means that the NYM will finally have that ace they’ve been lacking. With this aquisition the NYM should again be favored in the NL East, though they did lose it last year they were the favorite to win it. This season the pitching staff is even better, the bull pen has been improved, and with Santana now the ace of the staff (of course if they can get the contract extension and physical passed) the Mets are looking Amazing again!

Try check out ESPN for more information on it.

Bogan Dust

Tuesday, 15 January 2008 by cj in NY, audio, multimedia, shows, whatevahs

My new favorite local band is some guys from Australia that now live in Brooklyn. They are called Bogan Dust. I heard them a year ago at their first show with my friend Teague who has been living in Australia and knows them. Their first show was amazing, they played super late at pianos but a lot of people were there including the chick from deerhoof (I think she knew them from their old bands “Bird Blobs” and “Sea Scouts”). I myspace friended them, but they never played shows for a long time and if they did, they would post it on their myspace that day and I would always miss it. So finally I saw them again last week and I made a bootleg live recording. Enjoy.
